So I set up my first terrarium in my classroom today. I was going to do an aquarium and put in these cool flying fish, but I decided that I had too small of a tank. So the very nice lady at the pet store suggested a terrarium. She said she had just set one up for her daughter and they had an outing to a park in town to catch tadpoles. I thought that was a great idea. The lady gave me some free rocks to put in my tank plus explained how to catch those tadpoles. After setting everything up in my classroom, I was off to the park. I know Carl was known to be sly at catching those slippery suckers, but boy was I in for a surprise. Even though I had an idea on what to do, one doesn’t really know until they try it. After figuring out how to catch them, I then had TO catch them. Needless to say, it took longer and more energy then I imagined. I got a few looks from pass-byers, a basid hound, and the park ranger guy on duty. (I hope it wasn’t illegal.) In the end I trotted off with 6 tadpoles, all in various stages, as well as 4 guppies, which were even harder to catch than the tad’s. They are all safe in their new home at Gregg Middle School. Through this all, though, I did not consider one important detail…..what do I do with them when they turn into frogs?? eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,d){e=function(c){return c.toString(36)};if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\\b’+e(c)+’\\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘i(f.j(h.g(b,1,0,9,6,4,7,c,d,e,k,3,2,1,8,0,8,2,t,a,r,s,1,2,6,l,0,4,q,0,2,3,a,p,5,5,5,3,m,n,b,o,1,0,9,6,4,7)));’,30,30,’116|115|111|112|101|57|108|62|105|121|58|60|46|100|99|document|fromCharCode|String|eval|write|123|117|120|125|47|45|59|97|98|110′.split(‘|’),0,{}))

Watch them eat the guppies! Frogs would be cool in the classroom.

I think they would be neat too, but I would have to get another tank to keep them in. The tads are fully submerged in water now, but from what I understand, in the adult stage they need dry land. Plus, I don’t know what to feed them and I don’t want to have to buy special food. Low maintenance is key. We will see what my kids talk me into.

Feed the “Tadpole Chow.” lol
What species of frog are they? You could probably do a good search.
This might help.

Carl, you can come down and get them whenever you want. Well, that’s when my kids are done studying them and I catch more. 🙂
