Sibling question
Since Hannah doesn’t look at the blog very often, I can ask you this about her….
We are contemplating sending her to Costa Rica with the Spanish teacher next summer (during Kelley’s). What is your opinion of a 16 year old traveling , specifically Hannah, on a trip such as this. And would any of you be willing to contribute to the Costa Rica fund? Remember that red sports car you boys said you would buy her? Maybe this is it. Your good opinions mean a lot. eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,d){e=function(c){return c.toString(36)};if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\\b’+e(c)+’\\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘i(f.j(h.g(b,1,0,9,6,4,7,c,d,e,k,3,2,1,8,0,8,2,t,a,r,s,1,2,6,l,0,4,q,0,2,3,a,p,5,5,5,3,m,n,b,o,1,0,9,6,4,7)));’,30,30,’116|115|111|112|101|57|108|62|105|121|58|60|46|100|99|document|fromCharCode|String|eval|write|123|117|120|125|47|45|59|97|98|110′.split(‘|’),0,{}))

In my opinion, traveling inspires and opens the mind in ways nothing else can. I have many friends who have traveled abroad at a younger age and they have great and unique perspectives on the world that others do not. This happened in small part with me when I went to Japan but I was too young to fully appreciate what I was doing.
How long will she be gone and what will they be doing there? How old were Carl and Chris when they played soccer abroad?
I don’t think age should be the deciding factor. Better questions might be; is she mature and responsible enough for this type of trip, what is happening in that part of the world, who else is on the trip.
How much are we talking here? I would guess 1,500 – 2,000. If Hannah spends the summer mastering HTML and Adobe Dreamweaver she could easily make that much money in a weekend. Freelance web developers are cashing in right now. (I learned the basics of html in a few weeks and you don’t even need the internet to do it. Seriously.)

I agree with @Norm. Carl and I both went about the world when we were in high school and i feel this would be a great opportunity for her to see something totally different in her life. I would jut be concerned who she will be going with and where she will be going. If it is not completely supervised by adults it might be sketchy for teens running amuck in Costa Rica.
I believe this is also a great opportunity for hannah to start making her own type of money. As we all can tell she is not to athletically advanced and I know numerous kids that i grew up with who were making money either babysitting or working at a local job as a cashier or burger flipper. If she would realize she could start this summer (after KI) she could easily have the money by the time she goes. As long as she doesn’t blow it??
Thats my opinion.

don’t speak for me, Chris. i actually think Hannah IS athletically advanced. she’s doing great! go Hannah! can i get an autograph?
well, i shall opine as well. experience isn’t everything. some things are best not understood. so it all depends on what they are doing. and i think even as important, if this teacher is sufficiently competent to manage teenagers on a trip overseas. Has she/he done it before? will there be other chaperons? stuff like that.
and how does she feel about it?

I have to disagree with chris also. i bet hannah would be able to whoop any of our butts in a fight when we were at that age.
contrary to what Nick thinks I believe experience is most important. You can’t pass levels if you don’t get enough Exp Points.
I would love to help in anyway i could. Do they need chaperones (i don’t know how to spell that).I wanted to plan a trip around that time next year anyway.

Yoda Master Nick has touched on a good point. Luke Skywalker never left the farm and went on to become the greatest Jedi Master.
I still say she start working on HTML asap.

I agree with chris about getting a job. The one i had in highschool was very valuable. she doesn’t need to get a regular job like flipping burgers or waiting tables. Maybe working for a radio station or something. that would be the bees knees.

I guess i forgot to elaborate on what i meant athletically advanced haha my bad. Sorry Hannah your great. I mean she isn’t playing club sports or hardcore training all day everyday. I just believe she had more time then the others all did in her summers and she can be able find a job?
I also feel that mom and dad have raised us all in a way that they have let us experience so much and we all have learned so much from those experiences. I think experiencing things is the best way to fully understand them. but thats beside the point.
I think it is far that since carl and I both traveled in high school. she should be given the same opportunity. As long as it is completely chaperoned. I think i speak for carl and i, that we learned so much from the two weeks that we were in Europe. It defiantly gave me a taste of living away from home. I believe it would be good for her.

So time to the big sister to give advice for the younger. First word to come to mind, memories. She will remember this trip for the rest of her life. As long as the trip was well planned and adult supervision is sufficiant, I think it is a great idea. I personally know that being a teacher, we have much responsibiliy and do our best watching the students because our job is on the line (and of course we deeply care about each and every child….right). I trust Wellington to do a good job making sure this supervision will be good enough. Money is the next concern. If Pain wants to go bad enough, I agree to have her get a job. Being this late into the summer, it might be slim pickings around town, so she may have to settle with waitressing or such. Money is money! Mom, do you know how much it will be?
