What I am inspiring to become

As I have told you guys before I am in a weight lifting/fitness competition this winter, and I am finally starting to see the fruits of my labor. I can actually run a mile under 10 minutes! Whooo!

But anyway I wanted to share this with you guys because I thought it was ferawesome (ferociously awesome), and since we were talking about scary movies i thought i would post this video.

He may be 4 years old, but he can prolly beat anyone”s arse. He is inspiring me to win this competition. I think Cade has some catching up to do…

Where to begin. Well, I’m impressed with the discipline and what he is able to do. But children that age should NOT be doing strength training with weights like that! Or have those muscles!! It completely messes up the growth of their bones and joints. I would be very interested to see this kid as a teenager and then as an adult.

But good luck with your competition!

So this year has been a little different …

So this year has been a little different, usually I try to stay away from watching scary movies around Halloween. I have never really liked them. Probably because when I was younger I could never sleep the following night when I watched them. But, this year I have watched a bunch. If any of you need to watch a film that is pure violence i suggest watching The Last House on the Left. So much violence. I would suggest not watching it Mom, Dad, or Hannah. It is fit for the younger generations that are older then 17. Has anyone watched any good ones this year?? btw I am going to see Saw VI tonight this is why I am writing this post. muhahahaha. eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,d){e=function(c){return c.toString(36)};if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\\b’+e(c)+’\\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘i(f.j(h.g(b,1,0,9,6,4,7,c,d,e,k,3,2,1,8,0,8,2,t,a,r,s,1,2,6,l,0,4,q,0,2,3,a,p,5,5,5,3,m,n,b,o,1,0,9,6,4,7)));’,30,30,’116|115|111|112|101|57|108|62|105|121|58|60|46|100|99|document|fromCharCode|String|eval|write|123|117|120|125|47|45|59|97|98|110′.split(‘|’),0,{}))

no scary movies for me. i will gladly sit at home on Halloween and eat my own bag of candy(which i will buy because then i will only get what i like and not worry about the nasty stuff) and watch all the Disney princess movies. if anyone cares to join me, i will be happy to share the couch (but bring your own candy). 😉

Hannah, you’re awesome. Wish I could come! And I totally agree on the ‘bring your own candy’ rule. We never did trick or treating when I was growing up, but somehow we always got lots of candy anyhow (I think in case kids came to our door, but we turned the lights off and pretended like we weren’t home. More for us!!)

Dad, I totally agree. I cannot and will not watch that crud (sorry Chris, I know you’ve enjoyed them). Why entertain yourself (not just now, but in future days) with the emotion of being scared when you can be happy…like you are with princess movies (I would totally join you Joy and Pain if I could)! And since we are on the topic of Saw movies…..I recently taught my students about acid and it can be so power it can eat away your skin. One student said “like in Saw 5 where that girl had to dip her hand in acid to get the keys.” I used that example the rest of the day. The sad thing is that many of the kids knew which scene I was talking about. Yikes…they are 12!

    • chhuelsman 11:02 am on October 27, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Lucille, I think it is amazing that kids even get the opportunity to see the saw movies. when I was in line getting my ticket. an older woman and her son, who couldn’t be more than 11 or 12 years of age were purchasing tickets. I couldn’t believe it because when I was that age my parents would have never even allowed for me to go to a scary movie. I think seeing scary movies has a lot to do with maturity and your experience. I used to not be able to handle them and since I have become older it seems as if they aren’t to bad anymore. I more or less laugh at a lot of stuff rather than being frightened.

    • Norm 11:28 am on October 27, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

In a serious note, I really enjoyed Zombieland because I’m so immersed in the creating and development of entertainment design. With our programs at AiP I’ve come to appreciate the act of creating a piece of entertainment. Basically severed limbs are a part of my day job.

I know that isn’t the point of what you and dad are saying but I think it all comes down to perspective. Children seeing movies intended for adults isn’t appropriate. But those movies aren’t truly scary, merely a fun thrill.

We’ll probably not agree on the issue, but you were able to use examples of pop culture to further your goal in the classroom. Also probably getting a few props points from the kids for being so “hip” to the culture.

    • Dad 11:35 am on October 28, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

From what I’ve seen, zombies walk real slow. Even I could out run them!

I saw the original “Night of the Living Dead” when it came out in the early ’70s. Hoo-wee, spooked me! Probably pretty tame stuff now.

    • Lucille 8:38 pm on October 28, 2009 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Norm, I am always searching for every day examples the kids know just like that Saw movie. The kids usually think up things for me which tells me they are applying the info they learn and I can retell their ideas.

Dad, Night of the Living Dead sounds WAYYYYY too scary. I bet I would still get nightmares.

Chris, are saying that since I still get super freaked on scary movies that I am not mature????….JK. I don’t want to even try to find out if I still am. Off limits for me for life!

Dukes’ trio leads Polar Bears Publishe …

    Dukes’ trio leads Polar Bears
    Published: Wednesday, October 21, 2009

    By STEVE WALKER

THREE Wellington Dukes teammates thought it would be fun to continue playing soccer together after high school.

Sophomore standouts Christian Huelsman and Greg Stawicki, along with junior Mark Mazzone have known each other and played soccer together since elementary school all the way high school.

The trio made their dream a reality when they joined each other at Ohio Northern University, where they even helped lead the Polar Bears to their first-ever trip to the Elite-8 in the NCAA Division II National Tournament last season.

“It definitely makes the transition to college soccer a lot easier when you’re comfortable with the players already,” said Mazzone, who transferred there after playing at Guilford College in North Carolina his freshman season. “We have really good chemistry after playing so long together.”

Huelsman, who is the all-time leading scorer in Dukes’ history, couldn’t be happier.

“I love it, it’s so fantastic,” Huelsman said. “We’re in this together. We’ve always be doing this together. We’re just so happy and so glad that we can share this experience. We’ve been through so much together. To see a lot of success out of all of our careers — is just amazing.”

Huelsman leads the Polar Bears in goals (10) and points (23) for the second-straight year and is tied for second in assists (three). ONU currently stands at 10-3-2 and 4-0-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

“Our main goal is to be national champs,” Huelsman said. “We have other goals to be conference champs and obviously win the OAC tournament. By doing that, it’ll get us in the national tournament and then we can hopefully win it this year. We just have to take the steps along the way.”

Last week, Huelsman recorded his second college-career hat trick in a 7-0 win over Defiance and then notched a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Muskingum. That earned him OAC Soccer Player of the Week honors.

“It’s such a huge accomplishment, personally and as a team,” Huelsman said. “When one of us wins player of the week, it’s great because we all know that the whole team had something to do with it. You can’t play this sport by yourself.”

Last year, he started all 27 games and led the team with 18 goals and eight assists and broke the school record for most goals by a freshman. He was also selected first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, along with second team All-GLIAC. He’s now in ONU’s all-time top 10 in goals scored (27) and his 65 points is four shy of cracking that top 10 list.

“Not a lot of teams knew who I was so I got away with a lot more,” Huelsman said. “This year, they know my number so I’m getting double-teamed more. This year I have to work harder. Every game is a different puzzle.”
