Mom and dad would like the view from my bedroom. Each morning this week I get to watch the birds nesting in the rooftops. Although I don’t think my neighbor would be happy to know about the nest in the back corner of his house.

Bummer. Plenty of tomato juice, chicken noodle soup, sudafed, and wear a cap to bed.

    Hello and brrr…
Chicago just got crazy cold while I was out in the middle of it. Yikes. That’s a northern city for you. Never know when mother nature is going to take you for a ride.

Here are two pics of the tradeshow in action. There were more people walking around, but I took this when there was a lull in the action.

We got about ten leads today. You might think that’s not a good percentage of 1600 but we go for quality not quantity. The sales cycle for our software is anywhere from 6months to a year. Healthcare is complicated and there are so many requirements and agreements that need to be settled before a contract can be signed. It’s not like selling an ipod or cup of coffee. The sales rep felt the ten leads were great and hopefully she can close some of those. If she can close one it could cover the price of the entire tradeshow.
So that’s a tradeshow in a nutshell. Hope you learned a little about my job. Let me know if tins have any questions.

It’s no joke the windy city is really windy. I will never underestimate that again. So since the wind makes it feel like 5deg outside I am probably going to relax in the hotel lobby with the rest of the freeze babies.

Pretty neat. Wow, 6 mos to a year for a sale to pay off! That’s a long time, but red tape is red tape. Hope a few more accounts fall your way.

    Cat 2

We adopted another cat today. Fritz has been adjusting well but still sad and crying at nights so we decided he needed a friend of his own species. Tillian is very shy and it will probably take even longer for her to come around but we think they will be good friends.

Can’t wait to see the new arrivals. Cats like me for some reason. Bet the kids are thrilled!

Did you have a cat when we were there in December?

      • joy 11:21 pm on March 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

No. We got Fritz two weeks ago and Tillian yesterday.

Tommy and I are headed back to Summerville this weekend to hopefully secure/finalize some plans for the wedding. Caterer, hair style (me, not Tommy), cake, engagement photos. We will head back to Summerville the following weekend to run the Cooper River Bridge race and speak with the florist. The only thing we don’t have a contacts with is a DJ. Planning, planning, so much fun. Planning, planning, I wish it were done!

    tradeshows part 1

Have you ever wondered what I do when I go to tradeshows? well I thought it would be cool to document it and share with yinz guys what it is I exactly do when I travel. Here are some pics of the tradeshow floor before and during setup. If you’ve ever been to a tradeshow you have probably only seen the magic of the booths already put together. Free cheap giveaways, sales reps competing for your business, and thousands of people milling about discovering the cool new technology and ideas.

Here is the premagic. Not glamorous by any means. Just blood and sweat getting the booth all set and trying to take as much advantage of the decorator (the Company or union that squeezes every penny of you) as you can.

There are some booths, hopefully there are some tomorrow, that are gigantic and completely ridiculous, and some that have only a small banner and a table. It all depends on how much you can and want to spend.

Today was set up for the vendors. The actual conference (for nurses and other professionals to earn CME’s – continuing education credits or something like that) is tomorrow through Friday. The conference is basically paid for by the vendors. An exposition hall is opened for a few hours and thats when its go time for my crew and I. There are 1600 registered participants this year. Not too big of a show, but one of the larger ones we participate in.

So Thats what I am getting into this week. I will post me pics tomorrow.

looks like you guys got a cheap booth.

      • carl 5:00 pm on March 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Yeah. This one is fairly inexpensive. We have two booths actually. This is one we use for more, and smaller shows. We ship.this booth all over the country, and it is easy to assemble. it makes it easy for the reps and the budget. its not terrible but not the best in show either. gets the job done.

At least your work place varies. I see the same 4 walls and people everday. Not that I’m being a Debbie Downer, but do you want to switch jobs for the week?

      • carl 7:20 pm on March 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Yes. I don’t know if I would be a good influence on the kids tho. I would rather show them how to make super spit ball guns than teach about mc= squared.

Set up is a huge job. I don’t envy you, Carl. Hope Chi-town is good to your company. If the weather is bad, more people will be inside.

I’m banking on that since it feels like the arctic out there.
