Joy I just was able to post this from my phone with no problems. So it maybe a user setting. I have everyone except myself assigned as a “family” user while I’m the admin. If you can’t upload after what I just did I’ll make you and admin, and the rest of the family jealous.

Joy also hopefully you will be able to upload video too. or post viral videos since cade probably has a director account on youtube now.

I don’t know if I have seen you without facial hair! K, i will try a picture.

I think it is just me, or rather my iPad. I use it all the time, but still know very little about what all it can do and how to do things like this. So when (if I could) select the ‘choose files’ button, where would it take me?

        • Norm 10:44 am on July 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Check out this video, is this the app you are using?

If not then that is step 1. If so then maybe you aren’t set up properly.

I used the word press app and tried to post a picture. Everything went ok, but it doesn’t show up on the blog.

Tried it again, still doesn’t show up on the blog after I hit publish.

    Unbelievable!!!!!

    • Norm 11:28 pm on July 10, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I told Mel that we had two smaller 3D printers at AiP. They didn’t print metal but a plastic material. There is another company near Pittsburgh that also does this called X1.

What is actually really amazing about these types of machines, is that you can print items that are actually impossible to manufacture. Items that are like links in a chain that loop around themselves in impossible ways except for 3D printing. There are artists who specialize in this sort of thing.

Also the scifi reality of printing say a toaster in you own home is kind of an interesting concept. But I don’t think it will ever be practical except for extreme or military purposes.

      • dale 11:45 pm on July 10, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Perhaps they’ll one day have available multiple materials in the “toner” that will make a toaster possible to replicate.

I saw another vid on utube where they made a working ball bearing insert. Everything is made of the same material now (at least what I’ve seen on utube), but multiple materials using a more advanced scanner might make a toaster possible…. I don’t know, just dreaming.

    Quick try

Just a quick try at this again, as Norm suggested. I still can’t upload a picture as the ‘choose file’ button is unselectable. Is there a way for me to email a photo to the blog? That’s how I get pictures on my Facebook page. A friend had to tell me the email address for me to do that.

    • joylh 6:11 pm on July 10, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I also can’t upload photos to my blogger blog.

      • Norm 11:40 pm on July 10, 2011 Permalink | Reply

OK, try again. Without having your iPad in front of me this is going to be a long distance trial and error process. There is probably an email the photos option, but I don’t know off the top of my head how that would work.

I had an idea about why that option might be blocked for you. The backend of this site is a little more complicated than what I typically work on so that is why there are lots of possible setting options.

    • Norm 11:30 pm on July 10, 2011 Permalink | Reply

this seems like a simple problem to fix. let me check the blog backend and i’ll let you know.

Got this off one of my turkey websites. One of the members has a wife that teaches audiology at a university.
    ==========================================
I just wanted to check in and let you know that you have all raised some very interesting and relevant issues and there are definitely some things I want to help with.

Some of the questions I want to answer or comment on would be much more helpful for you if I take some time to gather up some facts and resources for you. I want the answers to be relevant for you and meaningful. Therefore, I want to go back to some articles and get some decibel levels for you etc. I’ve got a visiting professor on campus this week, so I can’t devote any time to it this week. I will get back to you this weekend with some specific information and follow-up for everyone.

    Resources to Explore:

In the meantime, for those of you that are interested or have kids or grandkids, there is a great set of resources we use for teaching kids about noise-induced hearing loss. It is at http://www.dangerousdecibels.org/exhibit/virtual-exhibit/ It is designed so that you can learn a little about ear anatomy, a little about how loud is too loud etc. There are many adults who enjoy it as much as kids, so at least give it a try. You will click into the “virtual exhibit” and explore from there. The advantage of doing this, is so when I say “cochlea” or “85 decibels” you will have a sense of what that means.

Here is another link to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) resources on noise-induced hearing loss that is designed for the general public. There is lots of good information and simulations there as well.

    http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/noise/

The more you educate yourself on the topic and the risks, the greater your opportunity to prevent hearing loss or minimize the progression of existing hearing loss. It is NEVER too late to protect your hearing…there is always more to loose, you just won’t notice it until it is too late. I’m really pleased to read some of the posts from the younger guys who are taking your testimonies to heart and are valuing their hearing early in life….they will be especially greatful in years to come.

Hope this helps for the short-term. Thanks for your patience.

he doesn’t know the 10 commandments yet. go figure. but he certainly has the desire and he knows what it is. “Feed thy children, God most holy…”

Norm, I think you mean “When does he start administering communion?”
Dad, i think the gene of memorization that was meant for me was passed to Cade. I have no qualms because he is putting it to better use than me. Keep on feeding that kid whatever your giving him. that’s incr-edible.
