    Sam Rodgers

    YEAR: Junior
    WEIGHT: Heavyweight
    RECORD: 20-8
TOURNAMENT TESTED: Champion at Elyria Catholic John McNulty Invitational; runner-up at Black River J.B. Firestone Invitational; runner-up at Chippewa Invitational; runner-up at Patriot Athletic Conference; runner-up at Brooklyn sectional and fourth at Garfield Heights district.
COACH’S TAKE ON POSTSEASON: “He’s going down there to win it, that’s our goal. We set our goals high and then we go for it. It’s going to be tough but he’s got a good draw. His matches are always close. He’s been in overtime several times over the past few weeks. Heavyweight is unpredictable and anything can happen.” — Sedlick
    STATE EXPERIENCE: First year
STATE OUTLOOK: Rodgers will be the underdog in his opener against Clarksville Clinton-Massie senior Mike Stenger (33-5) — the Kettering Fairmont district champion who placed sixth at heavyweight in 2010. An upset would set up a probable quarterfinal matchup with Huron junior Nino Majoy — the Bucksman projected state runner-up. The good news for Rodgers is that two-time state placer and projected champion Mimmo Lytle of Swanton is on the other half of the bracket.

this was in the chronicle today about Sam. it had a picture with it, but it was just a head shot and it looked kinda scary so I spared you. haha ;)

If you guys hadn’t heard yet, Sam placed 4th at the district tournament and that qualifies him for state! Once again he is taking Mom and I on an adventure we never thought we would go on, and we can’t wait!! He got there with a couple sweet wins. In one of his matches on Saturday he pinned the guy with one second to go in the match! It was awesome! He also has some nice quotes in the papers. The chronicle is the best. I think you can see them on chroniclet.com, but they might not be up yet. The state tournament is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this weekend. I’ll try to keep you all updated while we’re there!

My basketball season is officially over. I’m pretty sure I put on a convincing sad face for the coaches and the team. I’m headed to the doctor to get my cast on Monday. I’ll try to put a picture on the blog of my very first cast. Maybe mom should put this in my baby book.

    • joy 12:55 pm on February 27, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I kept my first cast (it was neon orange) after it was cut off for years. I don’t recommend doing that. What are they casting on you?

      • Hannah 10:49 am on February 28, 2011 Permalink | Reply

They are casting my foot for sure, but I’m not sure how far up my leg they will go. The stinky thing is now that because Sam is going to state I have to hobble up 3 levels to our seats. Looks like I’m getting a workout.

    • Norm 4:45 pm on February 27, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Good luck. I remember when I had casts on both my feet. Oh wait no I don’t. I probably blocked the memories because it was so awful.

Thanks. Hardly any of you are here and you’re still making me scared of the doctor. It never ends! :)

Hee, hee! Carl, I remember that Norm cried like a baby all the time in the hospital. Finally they had to call in a pediatrician! lol

Well the last, but certainly not the least child, has been going through a lot of changes. Moved upstairs to Chris’ old room. I finally have all my stuff up there and it is messy already. Having Sam here is different, but not in a bad way I guess. He makes me get up on time and always makes sure my lunch is packed. Basketball could be better, but hey only 3 more games left. After that I’ll get casted and I won’t be able to do anything, so I enjoy my mobility. :) Well, I think that’s all I have that’s new right now.

oh, p.s. anyone have a good ideas for senior’s gifts for basketball? I was thinking about making them pillowcases with their names on them. Anything else?

Getting casted? Loosing mobility? Are getting a full body cast? Chris was talking about body slamming you for fun during Christmas but I didn’t think he was serious.

Actually, Hannah, you should move to Pittsburgh with me for a few months. Let me teach you all I know about social media and you can skip college. Seriously getting a lot of job opportunities for social media expertise.

Yeah you could be on my bowling team.

Norm, I have to my feet casted for my plantarfasciitis. At least one month for each foot. But only one at a time. Both would just be crazy. Haha. And we’ll just have to see what mom and dad think about me skipping college, my guess is they won’t go for it but I have my fingers crossed.

Carl, I’m in for the bowling team. Sign me up.

So far so good. My team won on Saturday by around 5 or so points. This is oober exciting because I didn’t think we could do that well! I know that sounds a little weird, but after all they are freshman. We will be in action again on Wednesday. Hopefully I will be able to report something happy again.

    Wish us luck!

Hannah, I was telling dad that if you practiced dribbling more you could really develope some skills. Practice the stop and go, and spin move.

And the hook shot and the half court shot…I heard a kid make the news once for his half court shot. Just think….you could be famous!

    Holy HOBY!

Yes you read it right. You are now related to a future leader! I was invited to attend HOBY this summer on june 10-13. Not to worry Carl, i will be back in time for Costa Rica. The bad thing about this is it means no KI for me this year. Rats! But I’m pretty sure it will be worth it. I was talking to someone who went last year and he said that it was life changing for him. So I am really excited!

And guess what is extra exciting! It’s free! I’m eating lunch tomorrow with the Kiwanis because they are paying for both Jordan and I to go. I’ll have to say some sort of thank you and get a free lunch and 3 day leadership retreat like deal. Hey! That’s cool with me! :)

There’s a HOBY in the house! Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership thingy. The faculty selected Jordan and Hannah.

      WE ARE NOT WORTHY…

Awesome! exactly what are you going to be leading. I hope you don’t get homesickness, because it looks like youll be gone from Wtown for half a month.

Well I’m not really leading anything. It’s like a leadership retreat for only a few people in the state. And speaking leadership retreats ours is this weekend and i will also be doing that.

I had a scrimmage today. Though my team is a little dysfunctional, i hope we can iron it out in time for our first game. Fingers crossed!

I had my first high school soccer banquet today. It was loads of fun and there are some crazy pictures on the slide shows. I received the scholar athlete award, the PAC scholar athlete award, a little certificate of participation, a VARSITY letter and my numerals. I have yet to get a jacket but I’m talking it up with mom and dad. So that’s all the new stuff from me. Peace yinz.
