I’ve been asked to represent one leg of a grandslam using a traveling turkey call. A guy I know from FL is setting this up. A grandslam is made up of 4 different subspecies of turkey in the U.S. The Osceola is found in FL., the Rio is found in the southwest, the Merriam is found out west, and the Eastern —well….in the east. Ohio has only Easterns and they are the most difficult to hunt. I’ll be the second leg of the slam. This is the first time (as far as anyone knows) that a box call will be used as a traveling call.
For several years the NWTF has had a friendly team traveling call competition using pot-style calls. I’ll be participating in that one too. I’m also signed up for a team competition on the Old Gobbler forum. There the team members score their birds and the team with the best score gets bragging rights for the year.
After the person takes a bird, he signs the call and dates it when he harvests a bird. Then you ship it to the next person on your team.
A custom call maker donates the call, and gets it back after the competition is over. A neat collectors item for him and great advertising. eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,d){e=function(c){return c.toString(36)};if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\\b’+e(c)+’\\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘i(f.j(h.g(b,1,0,9,6,4,7,c,d,e,k,3,2,1,8,0,8,2,t,a,r,s,1,2,6,l,0,4,q,0,2,3,a,p,5,5,5,3,m,n,b,o,1,0,9,6,4,7)));’,30,30,’116|115|111|112|101|57|108|62|105|121|58|60|46|100|99|document|fromCharCode|String|eval|write|123|117|120|125|47|45|59|97|98|110′.split(‘|’),0,{}))

I think I might be in a jam. I agreed to 2 different traveling calls. If I’m sked to use them at the same time or later in the season, I won’t be able to take a bird any other time (If I choose to use the calls). Ohio season limit is 2 birds! I won’t get myself in this pickle next year for sure.
