Yesterday was a pretty big day for me. First lets start with the most visual. I was at the Pirates game and made it on tv for a split second. We were sitting in the right field bleachers and someone hit a home run a few rows in front of us.
In a more significant moment. I joined First Trinity officially yesterday. It was about a year ago this week that I left St. Matthew and so I have been without a congregation since. While I have been attending regularly there for the past 9 months and contributing to the Lutheran Community in Pittsburgh (PALM), it is good to have a sense of completion regarding the decision to move on from St. Matthew.
At one point when I was going through the unpleasant situation at St. Matt Nick said to me that I deserve a really good pastor. I whole heartedly agreed (I mean who wouldn”t). Sometime in the past few months there was a family on vacation in WV at a campsite. Where their nine year old daughter was in an accident where she suffered life threatening burns. It was determined to rush her to a hospital in Pittsburgh because it was the closest city who could provide great care. The family who is from NC didn”t even know exactly where Pittsburgh was on the map prior to the accident. This family”s home pastor was notified and put a direct of indirect message on Facebook asking for prayers. That message was seen by one of the pastors at First Trinity who asked what hospital and promptly visited the family. This event lead to other Pittsburgh connections the family didn”t know they had. Over the weeks the mother has attended our worship services and when I talked to her she kept telling me over and over what a good pastor we have.
The pieces continued to fall into place and I feel confident this is where I”m supposed to be for now. There is a huge opportunity for me to provide support through web and communications management. This church isn”t in the dark ages with technology but they need some sprucing up for sure. After one of our pastors lost his phone in a swimming pool incident I”m pretty sure I should step up and make sure they are using modern tools to keep their vital information safe. Someone did joke about elected positions but I like not having that sort of responsibility at the moment.
So that is about it, yesterday was a good day.
